Dr. Gary Ahasic
Dr. Gary Ahasic was born and raised in Aurora, attending Holy Angels Grade School and Marmion Academy. He then earned his undergraduate degree, with honors, from the University of Notre Dame (1973) and his dental degree from the University of Kentucky (1977).
Dr. Ahasic is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Fox River Valley Dental Society, and Chicago Dental Society, and is a past president and current member of the Aurora Dental Society.
Dr. Ahasic is certified in both Invisalign and Lumineers techniques and regularly attends seminars and conferences to stay at the leading edge of advanced dentistry and technology.
Out of the office, Dr. Ahasic is a very active community member. Dr. Ahasic has served on the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurses' Association of the Fox Valley since 1981, was recently appointed to Provena Mercy Mercy Hospital's (Aurora) Board of Directors, and is a former board member of the Compassion Foundation and of the Aurora Country Club. Dr. Ahasic also sits on Aurora Fox Valley Notre Dame Club's Board of Directors and chairs the club's annual golf outing to provide Notre Dame scholarships to local students. In 2001, Dr. Ahasic and his partners co-founded Dentists with a Heart Day in Aurora which provides dental services at no cost to people who could otherwise not afford necessary dental care.
A longstanding supporter of youth baseball in Aurora, Dr. Ahasic sponsors both minor and major league teams of Aurora Boy's Baseball as well as an Aurora Pony League team.
Dr. Ahasic is a member of Holy Angels Parish, where he was named Alumnus of the Year in 2005. Dr. Ahasic's volunteer service at Holy Angels Parish and School includes serving several years on the Education Commission, chairing a campaign to establish the school's first computer lab, and in 1993 with his brother, Leo, launching Holy Angels Oktoberfest, which continues as an annual fundraiser benefitting the school and parish. Finally, since 1987, Dr. Ahasic has spent many hours coaching basketball at Holy Angels.
Additional outside interests for Dr. Ahasic include golf, tennis, and travel. He resides in Sugar Grove with his wife Judy. They have three children---Kristin, Heather and Justin---and two grandchildren.
When asked what he enjoys about dentistry, Dr. Ahasic replied, "I enjoy making people smile, improving their smile, and establishing quality relationships."
Dr. Tonner
Dr. Brian Tonner has practiced at Fairview Dental since 1988. He graduated from Wabash in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in biology. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Indiana University in 1988. He is certified in both the Invisalign and Lumineers techniques.
Dr. Tonner is active in the Aurora Community, volunteering time with Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, and his church. He was given the Hickson award in 2006 for outstanding community service by Kiwanis. He was given the Community Participation award by Two Rivers Headstart in 2003 for providing dental care to the needy in Kane County. He also participates in the Donated Dental Service that provides dental care to those with disabilities. He participates with the Aurora Children's Dental Service and Dentist with a Heart programs that provide free and discounted dental services to the underserved in our community. He is the staff dentist with Bethesda Lutheran Homes that serve individuals with disabilities.
Dr. Tonner is a member of the American Dental Society, the Illinois State Dental Society, the Fox River Valley Dental Society, the Chicago Dental Society, and the Aurora Dental Society. He served as president of the Aurora Dental Society from 1993 to 1994, and as president of the Fox River Valley Dental Society from 2001 to 2002.
Dr. Tonner's interests outside of dentistry include enjoying his children's tennis matches and swim meets. An Eagle Scout himself, he enjoys camping with his son's Boy Scout troop. Dr. Tonner is a top age-group triathlete; four time marathoner and a 2005 Ironman finisher. He enjoys getting muddy off road with his Jeep, and he makes a wicked chicken pepperoni. Dr. Tonner resides in Sugar Grove with his wife Lisa and their three children; Megan, Mary and Sam.
Dr. Michele Bruno
Dr. Michele Bruno has been working in the dental field since she graduated from Parkland College with a degree in Dental Hygiene in 1984. Dr. Bruno, a native of Sterling, Illinois, worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) full time and then part time after deciding to attend dental school. Dr. Bruno also worked as a RDH for Drs. Ahasic, Sexton, and Tonner on Saturdays and during breaks from dental school. She graduated from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1993 and has been practicing in the Fox Valley ever since.
During Dr. Bruno's dental school career, she received three awards. In 1992, she received The William Starek Endodontic Award. She also received The American Society of Dentistry for Children Pediatric Award and the Academy of General Dentistry General Practice Award in 1993.
Dr. Bruno is currently a member of the following dental organizations: American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Fox River Valley Dental Society, Aurora Dental Society, and the Chicago Dental Society. Dr. Bruno also served on the board of the Fox Valley Dental Society Board and Executive Board from 2000 to 2006. Dr. Bruno served as the first female president of the Fox Valley Dental Society in 2004-2005.
Dr. Bruno is also certified in both Invisalign® and Lumineers techniques.
Dr. Bruno is currently involved in the community, participating in the Aurora Children's Dental Service and Dentist with a Heart Day.
When not at work, Dr. Bruno resides in Sugar Grove, and enjoys entertaining friends and family, decorating, pets, and anything that has to do with the water….swimming, boating, etc.
When Dr. Bruno was asked what she enjoys about the practice of dentistry, she responded: "I enjoy both the short term and long term aspects of dentistry. It is very satisfying to help someone immediately by relieving pain or performing a cosmetic procedure that improves a patient's smile! It is also very rewarding when patients return for regular dental care on a long term basis - especially ones who were fearful of treatment."
Dr. Larry Sexton
Dr. Larry Sexton was one of the co-founders of Fairview Dental in 1979.
Dr. Sexton has practiced dentistry in Aurora since 1975. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1971. Dr. Sexton graduated from Loyola Dental School in Maywood, Illinois in 1975 and has practiced in Aurora ever since.
Dr. Sexton was active in local politics in the 1980's and early 1990's, serving as an Aurora Township Trustee. He was also quite active with the Aurora Chamber of Commerce during the same time period.
He is an avid gardener, and has been growing orchids for the past 15 years. He is an Orchid Judge, a process that takes six years of study. He travels to several states to judge orchid shows.
He is a parishioner of St. Rita's church and has been on their finance council for the past four years.
Dr. Sexton lives with his wife Joyce and has one son, David, who works for Fox Television in Chicago.
