Meet Dr. Brian Tonner

I love being a dentist. I look forward to each day, knowing I’m going to spend time with great patients and a wonderful staff. It is my goal to make everyone as comfortable as possible and help patients achieve beautiful, healthy smiles. It is great to be in the “smile” business!

Education and Experience

It has been my pleasure to have practiced at Fairview Dental since 1988. I graduated from Wabash College in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in biology. I went on to earn my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Indiana University in 1988. I am certified in Invisalign®, Lumineers®, and CEREC® same-day crown techniques.

I am a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois Dental Society, Fox River Valley Dental Society, Chicago Dental Society, and Aurora Dental Society. I served as president of the Aurora Dental Society from 1993 to 1994, and president of the Fox River Dental Society from 2001 to 2002. I am also a staff dentist with Bethesda Lutheran Home, which serves individuals with disabilities.

In the Community

The Aurora community means a lot to me, and I’m happy to play an active part in making it the best it can be. I volunteer my time with Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, the Compassion Foundation, and my church. In 2009, I was co-chairman of the capital campaign for St. Katharine Drexel parish to build a new church and parish center. I currently serve on the board of trustees at Marmion Academy. I also participate in Donated Dental Service and the Dentist with a Heart programs that provide free dental care to those in need. Our office donates our time at Mission Possible, a free dental clinic in downtown Aurora.

Throughout my career, I’ve been honored several times for my work with the community:

  • Hidden Hero of Kane County by the Kane County Health Department for co-founding the Dentist with a Heart program with Dr. Ahasic, 2008
  • Fr. Joe Muller award from the Compassion Foundation for service to the Aurora community, 2006
  • Hixson Award for outstanding community service by Kiwanis, 2006
  • Community Participation Silver Star award by Two Rivers Head Start Agency for providing dental care for the needy in Kane County, 2003

Outside the Office

I reside in Sugar Grove with my wife Lisa and our three children: Megan, Mary, and Sam. My interests outside of dentistry include enjoying time with my family. As an Eagle Scout and current Scoutmaster, I enjoy camping with Troop 53 in Aurora.

I am also a top age-group triathlete: ten-time marathoner, including Boston in 2010, and a three-time Ironman finisher in 2005, 2009, and 2012. I enjoy getting muddy off road with my Jeep, and I make a wicked chicken pepperoni.
